What is the use of Delco?
The most concise explanation that can be given about the operation of the delco is that the delco is the distributor of electricity between the spark plugs in the ignition system. For this reason, it is called distributor or distributor in English. The electricity of about 12 volts from the battery and dynamo, in the coil part, increases the voltage by several thousand times in order to make its way to the spark plugs for ignition inside the engine. But this electricity must be distributed evenly among the candles. This is where Delco's role in the ignition system begins. The important point is that the spark and ignition are not supposed to happen simultaneously in all the engine cylinders, but this happens with a specific rhythm in terms of timing. Delco is a piece that, by cutting and connecting the electricity, delivers it to the spark plugs regularly and with the same specific rhythm so that the spark is struck for ignition at the right time. In addition, Delco's name is taken from the company that made this part for the first time; A company called Dayton Engineering Laboratories Co, which is abbreviated delco using the initials of the company's name.
Today's engines are based on a four-stroke engine. That is, a four-stage cycle occurs in each of the cylinders of this engine, which includes the first stage or suction (breathing), the second stage or compression (compression), the third stage or explosion (power) and the fourth stage or exhaust (exhaustion). In fact, in these four stages, once the piston moves up and down the length of the cylinder and moves the crankshaft. Circulate correctly and maintain the periodicity of movement. This is where Delco has to send electricity to the spark plugs of each cylinder at the right time to spark. The timing of this Delco power transmission is adjusted by the same crankshaft of the engine. The crankshaft transmits this timing to the Delco part by means of the valve shaft and the Delco shaft. In fact, Delco works like an on/off switch, which is controlled by the same crank and with the help of the valve shaft and Delco shaft. It is not bad to know that in four-stroke engines, for every 2 revolutions of the crankshaft, one revolution of the valve shaft and Delco rotates.
